Temperatures are set to drop this evening, as cold winds bring rain, sleet and snow to the UK from eastern Europe.

BBC Weather forecasts a cold night ahead across Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester with showers this evening that could become mixed with sleet later on.

Today will be breezy and chilly once again with a lot of cloud and further wintry showers which could become heavy with sleet mixed in, particularly over hilly areas of the county.

"The cold may feel especially harsh to residents as northern Europe has been warmer than normal most of this November," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Mike Doll said.

A cold weather health watch system operates in England from November 1 to March 31 every year, in association with Public Health England.

The UK is currently on 'green' alert, which is the minimum state of vigilance during the winter. During this time social and healthcare services will ensure that there is ongoing awareness and preparedness.
