TOWN councillors teamed up to help a homeless man in need.

Concerns had been raised about a young man sleeping rough on Connah’s Quay High Street and Cllr Gill Faulkner and Cllr Bernie Attridge worked together to ensure he had a place to go.

Cllr Attridge told the Leader: “After several calls and messages on Monday evening I went out in the torrential rain to locate the rough sleeper. Once located, through our senior manager in housing we arranged transport and temporary accommodation for the night. Our Housing options team are working with the rough sleeper to help him secure permanent accommodation.”

Concerns had been made to Connah’s Quay councillor, Gill Faulkner, on Monday afternoon, about a male who was sleeping on the streets near the One Stop shop.

Cllr Faulkner went to see the man about 8.30pm before raising her concerns with Bernie Attridge.

She said: “It upset me because he was lying on the concrete with his head on a bag and a blanket on him. It was raining and he was cold.

“I wanted to help. I rang Bernie Attridge and told him how concerned I was about this young man, he was only 27. It upset me to see him out in that weather.

“Bernie is a brilliant County Councillor, I can’t praise him enough. Thank goodness he was there, he organised a taxi by 10.30pm, he went straight out there despite it being late. He arranged it all, he’s amazing. It worries me to see somebody, a young lad, to lie there with one blanket on the concrete floor, it really upset me.”
