A COUNCIL chief is to be quizzed by town councillors over a bus service.

Buckley Town Council has called a special meeting for Wednesday evening with one main item on the agenda - the revision of local bus services.

Flintshire Council previously confirmed it had committed to subsidising the current Buckley local service until the end of the year.

But the town council requested clarity over plans for a ‘new alternative’ local service for the town from the beginning of 2019.

The special meeting, which will be held on Wednesday at Buckley Town Council, will start at 7pm.

In attendance will be Steve Jones, Flintshire Council’s chief officer for streetscene and transportation, and Ruth Cartwright of the county council’s streetscene and transportation department.

After being asked by town council clerk Martin Wright to explain how the local service will work, Ms Cartwright explained in an email to the town council that she intended to meet with ward members ‘in the coming weeks’ to discuss route and timetable options.

Further correspondence from Ms Cartwright about the upcoming special meeting, seen by the Leader, states: “The purpose of this meeting will be to glean information from the attendees to assist with the development of the local bus service past January 1, 2019.”

She invited town council members to consider a series of points beforehand, including current and future passenger demand, optimum service times, opportunities to link to surrounding communities and destination points, among others.

However the meeting agenda states: “The clerk has advised that the meeting will be more than Flintshire Council gleaning information from the town council and will also include detailed questioning from the town councillors.”
