A WOMAN is delighted with the response to her appeal for help to spread some festive cheer to Oswestry's vulnerable people.

Julie Evans said that she was "over the moon" with the response after she asked Advertizer readers if they could spare some time to volunteer at the event at St Oswald's Parish Church Centre on Christmas Day.

Volunteers have come forward to pledge time and donations for the event, and Julie added that she is hopeful she has now found a chef to cook Christmas dinner.

Now Julie has turned her attention to ensuring that those in need can attend the event, which will run from midday to 5pm.

"I need to know who is coming to the Christmas Day event," she said.

"Anybody who would like to be a guest must get in touch with me because I'm restricted to 50 and they will have to have a ticket."

The event was organised after CHALK CIC revealed that it could not hold its annual Open House on Christmas Day because Shropshire Council could not offer The Centre in Oak Street for free.

The event will offer a chance for the homeless, disabled people, pensioners and others who feel isolated to enjoy Christmas in a friendly environment.

Julie, of Llanfechain, is a familiar face to homeless people in Oswestry, where she offers friendship and emotional support.

She is also part of the Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations.

Anyone who would like to attend the event can contact Julie on 01691 828 823.
