TWO men arrested following a high speed 20-minute police pursuit in the Wrexham area on Thursday night have been remanded in custody.

Defendants Adam Mark Lewis, 18, and Lee Terrence Jones, 33, appeared from custody at a special weekend sitting of North East Wales Magistrates’ Court at Mold on Saturday morning.

Lewis, of no fixed abode but who is from Wrexham, and Jones, of no fixed abode but at the time lived at Meadway Close in Gwersyllt, are charged with burglary at an occupied dwelling in Griffiths Road, Coedpoeth, and stealing the ignition keys of a Jaguar car and a mobile phone.

They are further charged with aggravated vehicle taking when it is alleged that the Jaguar was taken and then driven dangerously on various roads from Coedpoeth to Gwersyllt and Llay and back to Wrexham.

The defendant Lewis is charged with driving the Jaguar when under the influence of cocaine, no insurance and no driving licence.

Magistrates were told that CCTV footage was available of the pursuit which took place in Wrexham Road, Victoria Road, Brynteg; Beech Avenue in Gwersyllt; Wheatsheaf Lane in Gwersyllt; the B537 and the B5102 in Llay; Mold Road in Gwersyllt; Berse Road and Watery Road in Wrexham, Pentrefelin, Brook Street and St Giles Link Road.

Speeds of more than 100mph are alleged and it is claimed that the pursuit only came to an end when the stolen car was rammed by a police vehicle.

Details of the prosecution case were given by prosecutor Helen Hall who applied for a remand in custody.

Defending solicitor Emma Simoes said unfortunately she was not in a position to apply for bail.

She indicated not guilty pleas on her clients’ behalf at this stage.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and both were remanded both in custody.

Their cases were sent to Mold Crown Court where they will appear at a plea hearing on December 21.
