THE UNITE union has expressed alarm at a Wrexham company's move to a five day week.
The announcement that Benders Paper Cups in Wrexham are moving from seven to a five day working will be deeply worrying for the workforce.
Whilst the union has been made aware that the company is facing some difficulties, they claim it is unacceptable that the announcement was made before meeting with the Union to discuss the detail of the company plans.
Management at Benders Paper Cups have announced that they are seeking volunteers for redundancy as a first step and Unite has called for talks with the company as a matter of urgency.
Daryl Williams, Unite regional coordinating officer, said: “Coming in the run up to Christmas, this will be a very worrying time but Unite remain committed to supporting our members.
"Site management in Wrexham are mistaken if they think Unite will sit back as idle bystanders while our members job security is under threat.”
