RESIDENTS have been left in the dark for a fortnight after their street lights were cut off as part of repair work.

The Albert Grove area of Ruabon has been without street lighting for about two weeks after a cable was damaged during work undertaken by energy provider Scottish Power (SP).

The company is hoping to resolve the issue as soon as possible but residents say the lack of lighting has created hazards and worry in the area.

Malcolm Owens, who lives on the street, says he and many of his fellow residents are pensioners and have been increasingly worried about the issue as the days have gone by with the clocks having gone back and the nights drawing in.

He said: “Just over two weeks ago Scottish Power did some work in the area on cables underground but it has cut off the street lights an for the last two weeks they have not gone back on.

“I’ve been on to Scottish Power repeatedly and they did come out and someone marked out on the curb where the problem was but there has been nothing since.

“Obviously the clocks have gone back and its as black as a bin bag out there now after 5pm.

“There are a lot of pensioners here who are becoming very wary, and a lot of people leave their cars on the drive too and are worried about them being stolen.

“One lady is about 80 odd and she tripped over some bins the other day because she couldn’t see.

“We’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting, but are being messed about, and we really need this sorting out now.”

A spokesman for SP Energy Networks said the company would try to solve the problem as soon as possible.

He said: “SP Energy Networks were made aware of the street lighting issue in Albert Grove on Monday, November 5.

“The job has been raised with our contractors for the work to be programmed in.

“Under the guaranteed standards timescale to complete a multiple fault is 20 working days.

“If no other emergency work takes priority we will push to get job done as soon as possible.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
