TO say things have been eventful for everyone associated with Prestatyn Town this season would be something of an understatement.

The Seasiders endured a squad exodus during the summer following their relegation from the top flight, in addition to manager Gareth Wilson departing for fierce rivals Rhyl and the appointment of Kinmel Bay duo Leon Field and Ryan Turner.

This was swiftly followed by more than 20 new additions and the return from a brief retirement of defender Dave Hayes.

Things got off to a terrible start which saw them rooted to the Huws Gray Alliance basement, but in all honesty the standard of football implemented was actually of a high standard, they were just lacking that cutting edge in the final third that separates the good teams from the average.

Field addressed this issue by bringing in prolific striker Ian Griffiths from Prestatyn Sports, and the man who scored the Seasiders’ first ever JD Welsh Premier League goal has already proved to be a difference maker despite missing a small portion of the campaign with a broken wrist.

Matters off the field also saw a new ownership team take over in the form of Dave Farrall, Neal and Salih Colakoglu, who harbour ambitious plans for the club and wasted no time in making their presence felt on the overall set-up.

Out went Field and in came returning hero Neil Gibson to the managerial position aiming to add to the rich history of success he achieved before departing to take up the first team coach position at Connah’s Quay Nomads.

He is not inheriting the squad that won the Huws Gray Alliance so convincingly in 2017, and in Gibson’s own words it is going to take time, but he has brought back some talented individuals such as Warren Adam, Alec Williams and Oli Buckley into the fold who have all made a real impact.

Even though results continue to be indifferent, the performances have been very encouraging and there is few that would argue that they will be removed of the problems they currently find themselves in sooner rather than later.

What this club needs more than ever after the last few months is a period of stability, and if, as expected, they can retain their HGA status this season then it would be a shock is some bigger names did not return to the Motion Finance Stadium to give them a real chance of achieving something great next time around.

Standout performer: Alex Jones

Jones was given the captaincy and has absolutely thrived with the extra responsibility, driving his team forward and constantly motivating them no matter what circumstances they find themselves in.

He has a relentless energy that is a fantastic asset to have from the midfield position, and his nous of getting in the right positions in the penalty area have already brought significant rewards this term.

One to watch: Casey Faulkner

Although slight in stature, Faulkner has provided a fierce injection of pace down the left-hand side since Gibson’s return, and he is another talented youngster to keep an eye on as he looks to firmly establish himself within the senior set-up.

His quality of delivery is exceptional, and Faulkner is always looking to support the stack whenever possible to further aid his side’s cause at the business end of the field.
