LLANSANNAN extended their advantage at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division summit after a pivotal weekend of action involving promotion-chasing sides.

Gari Evans and Tom Lewis’ in-form squad are now 11 points clear of Bro Cernyw with a game in hand following their resounding 4-1 home triumph over title rivals Llanfairfechan Town during what was another outstanding display throughout.

The home side came out in dominant fashion and opened the scoring after just four minutes when veteran striker Leon Gierke finished well, and things got even better soon after when Gruff Roberts doubled their advantage with 21 gone.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who made a fight of it for the majority of the contest and got themselves back into the clash after 82 minutes to ensure a nervy ending, but the hosts restored their two-goal cushion after 85 when Rhidian Edwards pounced, and another crucial three points were secured in stoppage time when Dafydd Williams completed the scoring.

The result was made even more significant with the news that Llandudno Athletic inflicted a first defeat of the campaign on derby rivals Llandudno Amateurs in an eye-catching 4-1 away success.

Danny Talbot’s fine effort on 23 minutes gave the visitors a slender advantage, before Jack Williams finished off a sweeping team move for their second with 35 on the clock.

An own goal after the interval on 53 minutes all-but secured the points, and despite a Michael Chapman strike midway through the half Athletic maintained their promotion charge thanks to a Lee Stokes goal after 80, and they could move into within three points of Sannan if they win all their games in hand.
