COUNCIL workers are to fix a road sign in Buckley after concerns for elderly people were raised by a resident.

Brian Draper told the Leader that a road sign in Nant Mawr Road reading 'elderly people' is usually illuminated.

But this has not been the case since early September, he said, and cars frequently come down the road at a fast pace.

Mr Draper, aged 78 and of Buckley, said: "I have been in touch with the council twice on the phone.

"They are ignoring the importance of having an 'elderly people' sign there.

"The bend is sharp and the cars come round at a real lick of a pace.

"It is not a personal thing because it is not that it would be dangerous for me and my wife, but there may be people who are older or not as fit as us.

"In my opinion it is a disaster waiting to happen."

Steve Jones, Flintshire Council’s chief officer for streetscene and transportation, said: “The authority does not have a record of any fault being reported relating to the illuminated ‘elderly persons’ sign in Nant Mawr Road, Buckley, in the last 12 months, however, we have now recorded this issue and will arrange repair in line with our standards.

"Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.”
