A DRINK-driver who police said refused to stop smoking for them and became aggressive left court with a £1,595 bill and three-year motoring ban.

Gas engineer Liam Shaw, 29, of Broxton Road, Wrexham, admitted drink-driving at Rhyl on November 1, resisting a policewoman, being uninsured and having no licence.

His breath-alcohol count was 48 and the legal limit is 35.

Prosecutor Diane Williams told Llandudno Magistrates Court that Shaw faced a three-year minimum ban.

He was fined a total of £1,466 and ordered to pay costs.

His passenger Daniel Skimmings, also 29, unemployed, of Gwenfro, Caia Park, pleaded guilty to engaging in disorderly behaviour and resisting PC Glyn Edwards.

He was fined £160 by the Llandudno magistrates with £115 costs.

Defence solicitor Carla Forfar said no violence was used towards police officers and the pair apologised for their behaviour.
