BLACON Boxing Club reached a big milestone when it hosted its first ever show.

The event, held at the club's home at Blacon High School, was a big success pulled together by lots of volunteers from the local community.

Support was unbelievable as local residents flocked to the school and the kids didn't disappoint with an excellent show.

Best friends Nelly Davis and Robyn Thomas opened the show with a skills bout. Both girls boxed really well – this was a really proud moment for the club and the school as they are both pupils.

Next up was another pupil, young Jay Thelwell, also in a skills bout. He showed confidence and skill for his first ever bout.

Charlie Durkin was up next, representing the Blacon club, and yet again he impressed with his elusive style, demonstrating brilliant head movement.

Next was Blacon Boxing Club's first ever competitive bout. This was something the whole club has been working tirelessly for two years and all that pressure was on 12-year-old Jaxon Heath.

He didn't disappoint as he boxed his way to a brilliant points decision and his victory took the roof off.

Representing Blacon in bout 7 was Deryn 'Deza' Irvine.

Deza is 13 and the club's youngest coach. He started really confident and was far too busy for his opponent – this victory brought Blacon's first ever unanimous decision.

Last on the bill for Blacon Boxing Club was Bradley Broadbent, who started strong, pressuring his opponent and forcing a second-round stoppage.

Blacon Boxing Club head coach Ross Broadbent said: "The night was a big success with some great clubs involved Lee Jones ABC, Deva Academy, West Wirral, Buckley, Phoenix Fire, Wellington, Hailwood, Haliwell ABC.

"We had lots of volunteers who all pulled together, really nice humble people that want the best opportunities for our kids. Two volunteers that helped I know personally and they have just recently finished treatment for cancer, yet they're giving up their time for our club.

"Blacon Boxing Club would like to thank anyone and everyone that had any input whatsoever. The night showcased what amazing facilities we have at our new school and also what an amazing community we live in."

Also showing their support on the night were Chester FC captain Gary Roberts and professional boxer Mason Cartwright, who gave out the trophies.
