A CAR arson has left residents on one of Wrexham’s newest estates shocked and scared.

The blue Golf vehicle was set alight on Griffiths Road, Stansty, at about 2.15am on Monday, next to the new Stansty Walks estate being built.

Kara Probin, who has recently moved with her partner to the estate from Rossett, was woken up by the blaze and captured video of the vehicle in flames from her bedroom window.

She said the incident left them scared adding that they were fearful flaming debris would spread to their new property.

“At about 1.45am I heard a car going up and down the road,” she said.

“About 10 minutes later I heard a car door slam and voices, but didn’t think anything of it.

The Leader:

“Shortly after 2am I heard a massive bang and thought it was a firework, but saw an orange glow through the window and saw the car, a blue Golf, up in flames.

“I saw glass shatter and a burning tyre fly across the road which made me scared because it landed near our hedge and I was worried that it was going to go up.

“We called the fire brigade and they were here within 10 minutes and the police not long after.”

She added: “I was very scared. We were worried the car was going to explode.

The Leader:

“My partner and I have just moved here from Rossett and you don’t get anything like this there - it’s very quiet.

“We moved in two weeks ago and we are the first people to move into the estate.

“Our next door neighbours, the second people to move in have only just picked their keys up so this isn’t a great start and has left us wondering what sort of an area it is.

“We are getting CCTV fitted in the next few weeks and had we had it already we would have caught whoever it was.”

One appliance from Wrexham was sent out to the “deliberate ignition” fire which caused 100 per cent damage to the vehicle.

At around the same time firefighters from Johnstown and Wrexham were also called to a flat fire in Alwen, Acrefair, shortly after 2.30am, which caused 25 per cent damage to the lounge.

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “The cause in under investigation.”
