A COLWYN Bay school skiing squad continued their exceptional recent run by winning a prestigious national competition.

Rydal Penrhos’ ski team travelled to Llangranog to compete at the Welsh Schools’ Championships, with qualification for the British finals at stake for those in attendance.

After a hugely competitive day of action, the ‘RP A’ team consisting of captain Daisy Yates, Cameron Pye, Freddie MacLaverty and Xavier Poynton emerged victorious and were crowned U12 Welsh National Slalom Champions after a sensational effort on the slopes.

The ‘RP C’ team of Fflur Pierce, Louis Walkden-Williams, Shane Ayeni and Harry Nurse performed well to finish in fourth overall, with Cieran Milligan’s crash out during practice resulting in the B team achieving a non-classified

There were plenty of individual triumphs to add to the national team title, with Ambition Racing squad member Xavier enhancing his growing reputation with first place in the individual and overall U10 categories.

Daisy managed to achieve a silver medal in the U12 girls’ individual and overall non-registered events, with Freddie securing the same accolades in the same U12 boys’ events.

Head of Boys’ Games Jamie McLeod, said: “This was another fantastic performance from our talented young skiers, who continue to excel on the national stage and to win yet another national championship is a testament to their enthusiasm, ability to work as a team and their determination to succeed.

“Our skiing provision is just one way we make the very most of our stunning location here on the North Wales coast, and you can see just how much each of them is enjoying being part of the squad which has contributed significantly to their overall achievements.”
