LLANELWY Athletic extended their advantage at the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Division One summit thanks to a resounding 5-1 victory at Y Glannau.

It has been a sensational start to the campaign for the recently formed club, and they are now seven points clear of second placed Henllan after securing their 11th success in their opening 12 league games.

James Burke was one of the standout performers on the day and produced two super finishes to continue his fine recent run of form in front of goal, with Kevin Rickard, Mathew Lewis and Neil Fazakerley also on target for the rampant pacesetters, who have scored a jaw-dropping 80 goals so far this season and conceded just 12.

A fine fightback from Denbigh Development saw them secure just their second point of the campaign with a 2-2 home draw against Betws-y-Coed.

Owain Hughes got the visitors off to the best possible start with a well-taken effort on 15 minutes, before Liam Jones levelled for the home side after the interval with 55 gone.

This provoked a strong response from the away side, who got their noses in front yet again courtesy of a Rhys Williams strike after 68 minutes, but the basement dwellers managed to secure a share of the spoils when Gwion Bibby converted a chance following a period of pressure

There was just one game in the Premier Division due to Presidents’ Cup fixtures, with Abergele securing a 2-1 home triumph over Bro Cernyw.
