FLINTSHIRE’s best schoolgirl footballers are set to make history as they get ready to represent the county on the field for the first time.

Girls from schools across Flintshire, at under 13 and under 15 level, took part in a series of trials at the Northop Hall Pavilion over half-term to decide who would make it into the final squad.

Those who were successful will make history when they represent the county for the first time, pitting themselves against the best of the rest of Wales.

On Friday, the girls were pictured in their new kits sponsored by Newydd Catering and Cleaning, who cater for school meals in the county, outside of Flint Castle.

Steve Jones, managing director of Newydd Catering and Cleaning, said: “We are very pleased and proud to be supporting this fantastic initiative by Flintshire Schools Girls (FSG) FA, who are ensuring that girls are for the first time able to represent the county of Flintshire at football.

“As founding patrons our core business is feeding the children of Flintshire in all the primary and high schools.

“We therefore have a responsibility to provide the opportunity for children to choose a well balanced and healthy diet which, along with regular exercise contribute to a positive mental and physical wellbeing.

“We look forward to working with FSG FA to continue to help and support the girls of Flintshire in pursuing an opportunity to engage in a sport they enjoy.”
