A COLWYN Bay skiing sensation continued this exceptional national form at another prestigious competition.

Xavier Poynton, a Year 3 pupil at Rydal Penrhos Prep School, recently competed at the Ambition Racing National 2 and Pro Dual Slalom Championships at the Chill Factore in Manchester, with the talented eight-year-old competing in U10 categories despite his tender age.

The aspiring skier took part in a series of testing runs that also involved a large drop during the Pro Slalom, but Xavier took everything in his stride to enhance his growing reputation with three podium finishes in the face of some stern competition from older and more experienced opposition.

His incredible composure and performance ensured third place finishes in the Slalom, Extended Slalom and Pro Slalom events, which further highlights the progress he is making to steadily close the gap on those ahead of him in the standings that have more competitions under their belts.

Alison Hind, Head of Rydal Penrhos Prep School, said: “Xavier’s consistency in terms of his performance at such competitive and daunting events is a testament to his natural ability and the desire he is showing to improve on an almost daily basis.

“This was reflected in another strong showing at these events, and his participation with the Ambition Racing programme is really inspiring him to achieve great things that will do wonders for his overall development in the future.

“He has the potential to go very far and Xavier’s fast becoming what of the shining lights of our fantastic skiing provision here at Rydal Penrhos.”
