POLICE officers have thanked members of the public for their engagement in tackling thefts across the area.

Operation Carreen was launched after a series of suspicious calls, suspicious vehicles and burglaries across the country and officers stepped up their presence across Flintshire and Wrexham.

Sgt Neil Hughes said since launching the operation, they now have a better picture of those responsible and what they are up to.

He said: "It has been much quieter now, the patrols have done the trick and distracted people often in the area.

"We have been impressed with the number of calls we have been getting from people and how good the information is.

"We are building up a much better picture of who these people are and what they are up to."

Motorists have previously been urged not to leave valuables on display after a spate of thefts across Flintshire and Wrexham last month.

Officers have been conducting reassurance visits to local residents and ensuring past victims of thefts have crime prevention devices.

Sgt Hughes added: "We are asking the public to remain extra vigilant and be wary of anyone calling to your address.

"If people are dressed in high vis, it doesn't mean they are genuine. If you're not sure, tell them you will phone the police.

"We also need the public to be aware of number plate thefts as that is part of their method of operation and car key thefts.

"Be extra vigilant. Revert to old fashioned techniques of security like steering wheel locks or placing an older car in front of the newer car and keep car keys out of view."

The Sgt said it has worked well up to now and they will continue pursuing those responsible until they are caught.
