AN ASSEMBLY Member has said she is 'impressed' with the new recycling centre at Oakenholt.

Hannah Blythyn AM, Welsh Government's Minister for the Environment, visited the Household Waste Recycling Centre recently which has been operational since October 1.

The new site is a split level design with Refurbs Flintshire to offer 'reuse' opportunities for furniture. Refurbs also deconstruct furniture on site, into their component parts such as metal, wood and textiles to maximise recycling.

"The centre has been well received by local residents who have already visited the facility and council officers are on hand to help them go through items brought so they are disposed in the right containers.

Hannah Blythyn said: "Residents of Flintshire already recycle more than 67 per cent of their waste, way above our national target for this year of 58 per cent.

"I'm really impressed by the Recycling Centre, which will help recycle even more household waste.

"I'm also pleased to see the centre has systems in place to reuse materials where possible, as reusing is the best way to reduce waste. This all helps towards our long-term goal to make Wales a 'zero waste nation'."

The site is the final part of the redevelopment programme for the improvements to the Household Recycling Centres throughout Flintshire.

Cllr Carolyn Thomas, Flintshire Council's cabinet member for streetscene, added: "The new facility at Oakenholt completes an upgrade programme to our existing Household Waste Recycling Centres to bring them up to modern standards.

"It's been made possible thanks to Welsh Government grant funding. The new development will help to improve our recycling figures further with the added benefit of ease of use and access to our users."
