THE Mighty Thor had his golden locks shorn as part of the stellar fundraising efforts by cosplayers and supporters of Chester’s popular comic convention.

Chester Comic Con, held at the city’s Racecourse last month, has raised more than £2,000 for local causes.

And a big contribution was made by Thor cosplayer and Flintshire Council employee Tomos Jones of Holywell.

He had his hair cut – for the first time in 14 years - live on stage at the con courtesy of Sam Richards and Wendy Williams of Eternal Beauty and Hair Salon in Holywell.

Before the cut, the former Ysgol Glan Clwyd and Deeside College student said: “My fellow Avenger Iron Man said it best, we can bust asses all day long but this, this is the end game, so today is the end game. Today’s the day - five hours and I will be having my hair cut for the first time in 14 years.”

Although the thunder god’s new do took a bit of getting used to, Tomos says it has an upside.

He said: “Omg I can wear hats now without a ponytail pushing them off my head!”

Tomos Jones posted Facebook photos before and after the cut

One of the con’s organisers said Tomos’ efforts were much appreciated.

The con team posted on Facebook: “Over £2,000 raised for some very worthy causes.

“With the help of Tomos Matthew Jones and Thor’s Charity Shave we have broken the four figure barrier raised for our chosen charity Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

“Thanks also to all who donated through the charity auction and photo opps.

“Along with our own chosen charity Tomos and Imperial Order 66 UK raised funds for a further two worthy charities.”

Fellow cosplayers and comic fans were quick to praise Tomos for his sacrifice.

Andy S Murray said: “Massive shout out to Tomos Matthew Jones for his charity event and doing well with raising an outstanding amount to get his hair cut. Admittedly, I'm already adapting to your short hair.”
