STAFF at a Flintshire nightclub are convinced it is haunted by the ghost of a sinister old man.

The Tivoli, in Buckley, was once a theatre and then a cinema before becoming a live music and club venue. But it has become famous for being a hive of supposed paranormal activity.

Staff there believe it is haunted by the ghost of a projectionist who died in a fire on the premises in 1945.

The original central hall was built in 1880 and was used to host the new silent movies and travelling showmen.

This building was demolished in 1920, and the Tivoli, as it stands today, was built in 1925.

Most of the building is in it’s original condition. Even after a fatal fire in the 1940s, areas of the building are still in a fire damaged state, which adds an extra chilling feel to an already atmospheric building.

As well as hosting a variety of artists and musicians, The Tivoli is said to host many different spirits and ghosts, from the friendly to the malevolent.

And in 2015, television crews from Most Haunted visited the Tivoli in the hope of shedding some light on the eerie goings on.

Staff have had glasses thrown at them despite them being the only person in the room, and the eerie image of a hanging man was once caught on CCTV by staff.

Kirsty Openshaw, who works at the Tivoli, has had many an experience of spooky goings on at the venue.

She said: ''The stage area is a very paranormally active area with some band members telling us they have seen a man standing at the side of the stage whilst they are performing but once they look directly the man doesn't seem to be there. This has happened a few times and they have all described the same old man.''

''The Human Pendulum seems to be a Tivoli favourite way of communicating. This is allowing a spirit to use your body to give yes or no answers, moving you forward yes, and backwards for no. We have had many sceptics try this leaving them dumbfounded by the results. The old man likes to use this method to communicate. We have found out a lot about him which researchers have been able to confirm. Such as how he died, family and what his job was in the early 1900's.

''The ladies toilets backstage are often used for Scrying, and we have had a gentleman's face change into a little girl and then to an angry looking man in his 50s. Another gentleman said he seen his face melt off in front of him.

''The Ouija board is something which is sometimes used, this is usually used to communicate with spirits who have come with people, and not our residual spirits. This has to be used and closed off properly though, you can't just open it up as we have found a 'joker' comes through pretending to be people's loved ones and he prays on their vulnerability. But we know how to deal with it.''

And people can experience the spooky goings on for themselves as the Tivoli is opening its doors for people who are brave enough to spend part of or a full night there.

On Friday 9 November, the venue is hosting a haunted sleep-out, so take your camera, a torch, a sleeping bag and some snacks and witness for yourself what is really going on there.

Tickets are priced at £25 for a ghost hunt and £40 to stay the whole night and can be bought from http://tivolivenue.com/product/tivoli-ghost-hunt/.
