Historian David Rowe, who was one of the speakers, explained Flintshire War Memorials Group provided memories, pictures and stories of several people named on war memorials for the event.

He said: "It is so people can know the person behind the name - it gives a full picture.

"They have built up a database and it is still growing."

Content for the exhibition was also researched and provided by members of Tyddyn Street Church history group.

Speakers at the exhibition included David Hanson MP, Vivien Williams, Mike Stevens, Tim Jones and Peter Metcalfe.

Mr Hanson also supplied a number of items for the exhibition including cigarette cards, a First World War plate and more.

He said: "Local exhibitions, like Flintshire Remembers in Mold, are important and fitting ways for our communities to come together to remember the sacrifice made by so many in the First World War.

“I was honoured to be asked to lend some of my family history and some items I have collected over the years to the display. Each and every one of us has a member of our family who fought in the First World War, for me it was my grandad, and it is important that we take time to remember what they did to keep us safe.

“Thanks must go to David Rowe and Mervyn Phillips for organising this fitting tribute to the people of Flintshire."

Mr Phillips, who co-ordinated the exhibition committee, said: "It has been a privilege for us as a church to bring together this exhibition.

"It is really quite an opportunity for us to share and pay our tributes and respects to those who served during the First World War and to have a record of their stories.

"Many who came were moved by the stories of local people.

"For those who came more than once - and those of us from the church and others who were helping - the exhibition brought us a bit closer to the sacrifices that were made and the awfulness of war.

"Our thanks to all who made the exhibition possible, to the many visitors and old contacts renewed.

"Our special thanks to Vivien Williams, David Rowe and Mike Dugdale but many helped and the exhibition’s success depended upon them."
