RESIDENTS are being invited to step back in time to see a town's history.

Mold Town Council will be opening its doors and inviting members of the public to come along for Historic Mold next month.

The event will take place at Mold Town Hall on Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3.

A large display of photographs and memorabilia showing the history of Mold over the last 150 years, along with the historic Council Chamber will be available for the public to view free of charge.

During the event local historian and author David Rowe will be giving short talks on the dark side of the town.

Mr Rowe will explore the more quirky issues affecting the the town in the 19th century from rotting herrings, cattle in the street, unwelcome preachers, overcrowded lodging houses through to a house of ill-repute.

He will also talk about three Wynne-Eyton brothers from the Leeswood and Tower Estates - one saw service in both World Wars, one in World War I and the youngest was a test pilot.

For anyone interested in attending one of Mr Rowe's talks they will be held in the council chamber at 11am (Dark Side) and 2pm (Three Flying Brothers) on the Friday and at 10.30am (Dark Side) on the Saturday.

On the Friday at 5pm and Saturday at 11.30am Peter Evans will give a short talk on the River Alyn; describing natural sightings, archaeological discoveries and local myths and legends on the way.

All talks are free of charge, but seating will be limited due to space in the Chamber.

To commemorate 100 years since the First World War, this year’s Historic Mold exhibition will feature photographs of military personnel, from Mold and the surrounding areas, who fought in WW1 along with history of Mold during this period.

Mold Town Council would like to thank Flintshire War Memorials and Mold Squadron Air Training Corps for their assistance with this exhibition.

Councillor Karen Hodgkinson, mayor of Mold, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents and those from further afield to extend their knowledge of the history of our great little town and I am sure the opportunity will be very popular."
