BLAENAU Amateurs continue to head the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two standings with a 2-0 home victory over Holyhead Town.

The early pacesetters extended their outstanding start to the campaign against a spirited Town side, who have adjusted to life in the fourth tier extremely well following a memorable Gwynedd League title winning season last term.

A tense contest was turned on its head late on when Bryn Humphries gave the home side the advantage on 70 minutes, and they wrapped up the points soon after when Iwan Jones doubled their advantage with 79 gone.

Llion Vaughan Jones and Darren Lewthwaite were on target for Gaerwen in their eye-catching 3-0 win at Meliden, with Nathan Moore hitting the target for Aberffraw in their 1-1 draw at Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

There was no such luck for Amlwch Town, who suffered a 3-1 home reverse at the hands of Mochdre Sports, and a brace from Iwan Morris was not enough to prevent Pentraeth from suffering a 7-4 loss to high-flying Kinmel Bay.

Llannerchymedd were unable to recover from a poor start and fell to a 2-1 home loss to Llannefydd.

Prolific forward George Southerns was the hero of the hour for Penrhyndeudraeth as they secured a 1-1 draw at Division One basement dwellers Llandudno Junction, but there was no such luck for Barmouth and Dyffryn United as they fell to a heavy 5-0 reverse at promotion hopefuls Llanrwst United.
