TALYSARN Celts advanced to the Gwynedd Cup second round thanks to an emphatic 6-1 home victory over Bontnewydd.

The hosts wasted no time in making their mark on the tie and went ahead on six minutes when David Jones converted a chance, and things got even better for them soon after when Glyn Tomos doubled their advantage with 11 gone.

This was swiftly followed by a third which came courtesy of Alun Williams after 29 minutes, and Celts booked their place in the hat when Osian Jones finished well in first half stoppage time.

After the break saw the impressive Tomos notch his second of the afternoon after another prolonged spell of possession on the hour mark, and Jac Jones got in on the act on 83 when he diverted an effort into the corner.

Ian Pleming ensured the visitors had a consolation to show for their efforts late on, but it did not take the gloss off a much-improved display from the inconsistent home side.

The only Gwynedd League contest of the weekend saw Mynydd Tigers pick up just their second victory of the campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 success over Llanystumdwy.

An Ian Burgess strike on 38 minutes was enough to give the hosts emerge with all three points from a hotly contested affair, and they now occupy ninth spot in the standings.
