CAERNARFON Town manager Sean Eardley praised his side’s defensive qualities following their goalless draw with Connah’s Quay Nomads.

The Cofis produced a resolute display to secure a second clean sheet against the JD Welsh Premier League title hopefuls this season, and they now occupy eighth position in the standings ahead of their trick trip to Carmarthen Town this Saturday (2.30pm).

Eardley, said: “It is another point against Connah’s Quay and not many teams are going to take four points off them this season.

“We looked at the Newtown game and I thought we could have been braver without the ball which we weren’t for whatever reason in the second half, but you can react to defeat in different ways and we have done so by being bold, doing the ugly things and defending well, which is a credit to my lads and it’s very rare to get a clean sheet against a side that good.

“We have still got lads waiting in the wings and we are going to need them during what is a long season. The most important thing from their perspective is that they believe in themselves.

“I believe in them and it’s my job to install that again this week for a difficult game at Carmarthen. We’ll have a look this week, but I know that I have players that I can rely on to go and give a good performance and hopefully pick up another three points.”

Eardley also signled out the performance of summer signing Sion Bradley, adding: “We want Sion as high up as we can and everyone knows what he can do.

“He will improve the defensive side of the game, but he won’t get the freedom he got last year at Port in this league. Saying that he has been excellent so far.”
