A WOMAN who sustained a severe brain injury is calling for cannabis oil to be made available to more people on prescription.

Susan Rider of Shotton was involved in a road accident in Dagenham in 1986 which left her paralysed on one side.

She said no medication was helping her until she was introduced to cannabis oil by her ex-husband and she made a 'miraculous recovery'.

Miss Rider, 63, told the Leader: "I was on a pavement and a drunk driver hit be on the curb and knocked me into the air then drove off. I was broken.

"I was in a real sorry state, nothing was working until I was introduced to CBD oil. I started to make a miraculous recovery.

"I had to learn how to walk and talk again, it was like being a baby. I'm in a lot of pain, it's horrendous and I can feel it from top to toe.

"I get days where I just can't move, it's gotten to the point where I've contemplated suicide before.

"My doctor said he would let me have it if (cannabis oil) he could but his hands are tied because he needs permission."

Miss Rider, who buys the product online, is urging Welsh Government to listen to cases like hers.

She said she has been left out of pocket after buying the oil herself, which can barely afford due to being on benefits.

She added: "I'm spending over £200 every two weeks on the oil and I'm on benefits. I'm skint all the time and I can't afford it.

"I think it's wrong, it's horrible that I'm going through all this.

"I suffer with diabolical migraines which is stress related and all of this stress is down to me not having the medication I should be entitled it.

"What do I do now? I just don't know. Why should I have to keep going through this? I can't see why there should be any problems with it all.

"Please take notice of me before I die."

Sativex is currently only available for people with multiple sclerosis.

A spokesman for Welsh Government said: "Following a detailed appraisal by the All-Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG), Sativex® was recommended as an option for use in NHS Wales, for adult patients with moderate to severe spasticity due to multiple sclerosis, in August 2014.

"The UK Government is in the process of changing the law to permit the use of ‘cannabis-based medicinal products’.

“ After the law changes in November, hospital consultants may prescribe these products, if clinically appropriate."
