A PART-TIME disk jockey who had been celebrating a successful charity night was caught drink-driving.

Steven Daniels, 55, of Heol Abon, Cefn Mawr, near Wrexham, told a court it had been a “silly error” on his part.

Daniels admitted driving with 55 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath compared to the legal limit of 35.

He was banned from driving for a year and fined £200 with £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.

North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold heard how he was stopped driving a Citroen on the northbound carriageway of the A483 at Halton on October 10.

Daniels, who had no previous convictions, represented himself.

In mitigation he said: “We had been raising money for charity, the Nightingale Hospice.

“I have a drink each weekend, a couple of shandies.

“I work part-time as a DJ and I am always about late at night.”

He said they had done better than expected on the day and everyone was congratulating each other. A couple of drinks came and went.

Daniels saidhe went to McDonalds for something to eat before going home and when he was stopped he was over the limit.

“There is no real excuse,” he said. “I don’t normally drink in the day.”

Daniels was a self-employed painter who had lost his job because of the offence.

“The sooner I can get back in my car the better for everybody,” he said.

“It will never happen again.”

Daniels thanked district judge Gwyn Jones who told him that if he successfully completed a drink-driving rehabilitation course, then the ban would be reduced to nine months.
