YNYS Mon manager Campbell Harrison has hailed the quality of footballing talent on the island following the first trial game last week.

The first of three such games took place at the home of Huws Gray Alliance side Holyhead Hotspur on Wednesday, October 17, which saw more than 150 people descend on The New Stadium to see some of the best young talent anywhere in the region showcase their skills with a view to being selected for next summer’s Inter Games Football Tournament.

Two more trial matches are scheduled to take place before Christmas, and Harrison admitted to having a selection headache on his hands going into the new year when the squad will be whittled down.

He said: “I think it has to be said that our first trial game was an enormous success and a fantastic celebration of the many excellent players we have on the island.

“It was brilliant to see so many players showing how much passion and desire they have for representing the island at next summer’s tournament.

“I’ve got some very difficult decisions ahead of me in the new year, that’s for sure, because these players we saw on Wednesday night put everything they had into the game and have shown such enthusiasm for the island – they’ve really done themselves proud – and we’ve got so many more players to see in future trial games to come.

“There was a real buzz at the match from everyone – fans, coaches, players, our committee members who are responsible for making this tournament happen – and the best thing is we’re only just getting started on our journey.

“There’s a long way to go, and this adventure for our island is only going to get more and more exciting for our island.”
