A TEACHER is to welcome back a former pupil for a big homecoming gig.

Saith Seren in Wrexham town centre is the venue for a gig this Friday evening to celebrate the start of the half-term holidays.

Welsh language band ‘Daniel Lloyd a Mr. Pinc’ will play for a packed audience of teachers, students and other Welsh music fans, at the start of the week-long break.

The band is fronted by former Ysgol Morgan Llwyd pupil Daniel Lloyd, originally from Rhos, who has forged a successful career as an actor and musician, and is starring in the annual Rock n’ Roll Panto at Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Dick Whittington which starts next month.

Daniel has performed in musicals for many years, including a long run in the West End musical ‘The Commitments’.

He has recorded many albums with the band, with the ‘Goleuadau Llundain’ CD in particular having become a classic in the Welsh language pop genre, and is played regularly on Radio Cymru.

In 2017, Daniel decided to reform ‘Mr. Pinc’ after a hiatus of six years, and it was an invitation by his former school teacher to play at Saith Seren in March 2017 that persuaded him that the time was right for a comeback: “I received a call from Chris Evans, whom I’ve known since he taught me at school many years ago, and that gave me the impetus to reform the band.

"He invited us to play a gig at Saith Seren to celebrate St. David’s Day, and it sold out quickly and was a great re-launch for the band.

"We’ve been playing regularly ever since and the gig at Saith Seren has to rank as my favourite gig ever”.

Chris Evans, who still teaches at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, as well as being Chairman of Saith Seren, is delighted that Daniel has agreed to come back to perform at the venue.

He said: “I’ve kept in touch with Daniel over the years, and followed his career closely, and he’s always managed to get me good tickets for his shows.

"He was a wonderful guitarist and singer even when he was at school, and I’m delighted that he and the band are back again at Saith Seren. Tickets are selling fast but there are still some left at the moment”.

“I still work at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, and I know that many teachers and students are coming on Friday to celebrate the end of what has been a long eight week half term in style.

"I think it’s really important that students in the sixth form, and former pupils, come to Saith Seren and use Welsh outside the classroom in a social setting.

"It is also great for them to see a former pupil of the school succeed in the Welsh language music business. We’re very proud of what he has achieved."
