The group launched earlier this week and Mr Ashford explained how it came about.

He said: “Treuddyn under fives play group was established a long time ago and they were based in the youth wing attached to the school.

“But due to the charges it was no longer sustainable to run it there. So we have decided to take the play group on and invite them into the school. They will have their own space in the school and it will be an all-inclusive play group that has its own resources. There will be close links between foundation phase teachers and play group leaders. We had a launch day where we invited parents to see what facilities we have.

“It had an excellent turnout - I was not expecting that many people at all. It was very successful.”

He added: “The children will be able to take part in the forest school sessions and they will be given opportunities to develop numeracy and literacy skills through structured play activities.”
