PRE-SCHOOLS have been congratulated on their achievements in health and wellbeing.

The first Flintshire Healthy and Sustainable Pre-School Scheme (HSPSS) Celebration of Achievement has been held to recognise the achievements of pre-school settings in all aspects of the scheme and their commitment to children’s health and wellbeing.

The HSPSS is a national initiative funded by Public Health Wales, coordinated in Flintshire by the Healthy Schools Scheme in the education and youth portfolio.

There are currently 42 settings taking part in the scheme in Flintshire and they are all actively working to promote and protect all aspects of health including physical activity, nutrition and oral health, emotional health and wellbeing, safety, hygiene and the wellbeing of their staff.

The event was opened by Claire Homard, Flintshire Council’s chief officer for education and youth and presentations were delivered by Teresa Owen, executive director of public health at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, as well as behaviour specialist Lynn Williams, who gave a talk on behaviour in pre-school aged children.

Awards were presented by the chairman of the council, Cllr Paul Cunningham, accompanied by his consort, Joan Cunningham.

Cllr Cunningham said: “It is an honour to present these awards.

“This scheme requires the pre-school settings to demonstrate that they are firmly committed to promoting health and wellbeing. This has been a fantastic event and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.”
