LLANDUDNO’s poor run of recent results continued as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Aberystwyth Town.

It has been another difficult week for Iwan Williams’ side, who were thumped 6-1 at defending champions The New Saints before conceding a late penalty against Aber just three days later.

They currently sit in tenth spot in the standings and face a critical trip to Cefn Druids on Friday evening as Tudno look to get out of their current slump.

Mark Connolly almost opened the scoring for the home side early on when his free-kick from 25 yards went wide, and they had strong claims for a penalty soon after when Mike Pearson was bundled over in the box, which was not given.

An error from the visitors presented a golden chance to George Harry after 25 minutes, but his effort was tame and parried away by Terry McCormick.

Nev Powell’s side were carving out plenty of chances themselves, and they came within inches of hitting the target when a Wes Baynes free-kick was met by the head of Declan Walker, who saw his header rattle the crossbar before Steven Thomas cleared.

The same combination forced Shaun Pearson into a smart save just before the break, and he was called into action once again after the interval when he diverted an Ashley Ruane effort.

Substitute Toby Jones made an instant impact on 66 minutes but screwed his shot wide after a fantastic individual run, and the crucial point of the contest arrived on 77 when Kai Edwards impeded Ruane in the penalty area to give the away side a spot kick, which Walker duly despatched to give them a slender lead.

John Owen and Alfons Fosu-Mensah wasted chances towards the end of the contest for the hosts, who had Zyaac Edwards sent off late on for an altercation off the pitch.
