MOTORISTS are being advised of temporary traffic restrictions as part of an upcoming running event.

The Flintshire 10k and 5K will take place in Mold on Sunday.

Organiser Run Wales has confirmed the race starts and finishes at Mold Leisure Centre and takes a loop around the town.

Runners in the 10K event will begin at 10.30am and those participating in the 5K will set off at 9.30am.

There will also be a 1K fun run starting at 9am.

Flintshire Council has advised residents of temporary traffic restrictions which will be in place on the day.

Steve Jones, chief officer for streetscene and transportation, said: "The B5444 Wrexham Road will be restricted to one way traffic, from Brook Street to the A494 roundabout, between 8.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday.

"Vehicles will be prohibited from travelling towards Mold from the roundabout.

"The restriction will be in place to ensure the safety of those competing in this year’s Flintshire 5 and 10k runs.

"Motorists are advised to travel via the A494 Mold Bypass, A541 Chester Road and A5119 Chester Street to access Mold town centre."

Mold Town Centre manager Dave Hill welcomed the race's return to the town.

He said: "It attracts a good crowd of runners that come to enjoy the countryside in Flintshire.

"And it is nice that the event centres on Mold. I am pleased for everyone taking part that the weather looks good."

This year’s race is supported by Aura Leisure and Libraries, team members of which will also be leading a warm-up for both the 5km and 10km events on the day.

Run Wales has confirmed that for the duration of the road closures residential access will be maintained when safe and clear.
