VISITORS to a popular Wrexham tourist attraction have been taking part in a knitting challenge.
The Erddig knitting challenge sees hundreds of local people donating to help families in Wrexham.
Earlier this year the National Trust in north east Wales linked up with Home-Start Wrexham to provide special days out at Erddig and a weekend camping at Chirk Castle.
Home-Start supports families with young children facing tragedy and hardship to deal with the challenges they face, supporting parents as they learn to cope, improve confidence and build better lives for their children.
Volunteer and community involvement manager Sue Jones said: “To continue our relationship with Home-Start through the winter, we launched a project called ‘A throw for you’.
“The idea is to make knitted or crochet blankets to be given to Home-Start Wrexham families as a Christmas gift.”
Pam Hoyle, Home-Start Scheme Manager said: “It’s a great idea to offer a sign of friendship to families and give them something cosy to snuggle under in the winter. Thank you to everyone for getting involved.”
Sue added: “We put a call-out for 15cm knitted or crocheted squares (DK or Aran wool) and hundreds of squares have been flooding in.”
The squares are being sewn together by staff, volunteers and and various community groups – in itself an activity that supports wellbeing - and squares can be dropped at the Erddig ticket office or at the Home-start office.
