FRESH concerns have been raised about children's safety on roads outside Golftyn Primary School.

Last month, the Leader reported on the concerns raised by parents for children's safety amid the issue of a plethora of parked cars outside the Connah's Quay school.

People either dropping their children off or picking them up from school are parking on nearby roads surrounding the school, leading to grave concerns that it is an accident waiting to happen with heavily reduced visibility and major congestion.

The council subsequently issued a statement saying that traffic enforcement officers would visit the site on a regular basis, but, after a short period of the issue seemingly being resolved, the same concerns are now being raised as the cars are back to parking there.

A concerned resident, wishing to remain anonymous, said: ''The day after the first article by the Leader, there were no cars to be seen on the roads outside the Golftyn CP.

''But since then, the issue has gone back to what it was three weeks ago, and for me it's just an accident waiting to happen. Young kids are being hidden by the frankly ridiculous number of parked vehicles, and it is a huge concern that sooner or later someone is going to get seriously hurt.

''While the parked cars are also proving a real nuisance to the residents who are struggling to find a place to park outside their own homes, we are much more concerned for the safety of the children coming and going from the school.

''There is supposed to be a traffic warden from the council coming every Tuesday, but they've been here only once.''

Steve Jones, Streetscene and Transportation said: ''Flintshire County Council’s enforcement officers are responsible for patrolling a number of high profile areas, which includes Golftyn Primary School, as well as outside a number of other schools in the county.

''This activity is scheduled to ensure all schools receive a reasonable level of presence. The council’s enforcement officers have, and will continue to visit the Golftyn Primary School area as resource allows.

"In light of reports received, the council will continue to ensure a presence of enforcement in the area as well as investigate further options to improve compliance with the recently implemented restrictions.''

Golftyn C.P. did not wish to comment.
