UNWANTED apples have been pressed into action by juice lovers in Ruabon.

The event was organised at Bridge End Inn, by Friends of Ruabon with Growing Ruabon and visitors were encouraged to have a go with the whole process.

The process included sorting the apples, throwing apples into the cruncher, turning the apple press and finally tasting the fresh apple juice produced. Donations of unwanted apples, windfalls and freshly picked apples were all thrown into the mix creating different juice with each press.

After the apples were pressed, people who attended the day were apple to sample the fresh juice and bottle it up for a later date.

Sarah Giles, from Friends of Ruabon, said: "It was a very successful day, with a steady flow of participants, lots of apples and great family fun. The Bridge End Inn were very welcoming and there was a true community spirit to the event."

Jo Smith, from Growing Ruabon, said: "Its all gone really well, I think we have again achieved our aim of pressing local apples that otherwise would have gone to waste, it's why we set up Growing Ruabon.

"We have had a busy few weeks, starting with apple pressing at Mold Food Festival, then at The Bridge End Inn, and at Llanfynydd Epic Onion and Apple Fest on October 7.

"None of this would have been possible without the help from lots of volunteers from Friends of Ruabon who gave up there time not only to come and help at our pressing events, but picked lots and lots of apples. A big thank you to them."
