A PLAYWRIGHT from Wrexham is launching a new series of monthly lunchtime theatre shows.

Light and Dark performances will begin at 1pm on Saturday at the Ty Pawb arts hub in the town centre.

The October performance, organised by award-winning playwright Peter Read, will be followed by performances on November 10 and December 8.

Theatre-goers this Saturday will have an opportunity to see two excerpts from longer pieces written by Lianne Molico Franco and Peter Read, plus two short plays by Aaron Neal.

Light and Dark will illustrate the lighter and darker sides of living in a modern world "with all its wondrous chaos, ironies, fragilities and emotions".

The show will start with an excerpt from a spoken word production by Lianne Molica Franco entitled Book of Face, an honest and open commentary on the modern phenomenon of social media.

This will be followed by excerpts from Muddling Through Motherdom, a humorous and poignant tale of a single mum coming to terms with the challenges of raising two small boys.

It is based on blogs written by Bethan Read and has been adapted for the stage by Peter Read, her father.

One Solicitor, Three Mobiles and a Couple is a short comedy sketch by debut writer Aaron Neal, based on relationships, nostalgia and the impact of mobile phones on how we live our lives in today’s world of electronic media and communication.

The Light and Dark production will finish Aaron Neal's play Regret which is a hard-hitting, dark look at the subject of relationships and contains some strong language.

It is a short play telling a modern story about age old emotions love, loss, guilt and a need to remedy mistakes of the past.

Set in the noughties between Australia and the UK, Regret is a social commentary on a generation that lived with the freedoms and challenges of an ever-changing world.

Lunch Time Theatre shows have grown out of Wrexham Playwrights, a group for local writers, and Peter Read is keen to consider short plays for future script in hand productions.
