A NEWLY appointed team of high school prefects are excited to take on responsibilities in the year ahead.

The new team at Flint High School have already been called upon to assist with the school’s recent open events for year five and six primary pupils.

A spokesman for the school said: "The prefects have an important leadership role which involves supporting the pastoral team during form periods and assisting with the implementation of school rules in break duties.

"As ambassadors for the school, they are also involved with representing the school on visits and at special events."

More than sixty students applied for one of the twenty eight prefect roles.

Angie Chatfield, head of year 11, said: “Prefects play an important role in day to day school life and help to promote and reinforce our school values, setting an important example for all members of our school community.

"They also have a very important role in fostering communication between staff, students, parents and the wider school community.

“We were very impressed with the number of students applying for the prefect positions and the quality of their applications.

"The whole process was conducted in the same way as applying for a job.

"We evaluated all the application forms and made a shortlist based on each student’s contribution to school and their overall approach to school life.

"This was the key factor as we wanted to ensure they would be strong role models for the younger year groups and provide a student voice for all.”

From the final shortlist, the chosen head boy and head girl are Olivier Davies and Meg Roberts. Kristian Roberts and Molly Salter were selected as deputies.

The prefects are currently helping with arrangements for the forthcoming sixth form open evening which is being held on Thursday, October 11 and they will be on hand at the event to talk to prospective students and their families.
