A FLINTSHIRE mum has celebrated after becoming the Best-Selling author on Amazon with the release of her debut book.

Kat Massey, 43, of Connah’s Quay, wrote her book ‘Living with Dolls’ which is a personal story to show people what it is like tackling mental health.

The book is now No.1 in the categories of Women’s Biographies and Young Adult Biographies and it has knocked Fearne Cotton off the top spot.

The author started a blog about real experiences and after receiving heartfelt messages she decided to tell her whole story.

She said: “Finally, someone was listening to my words after all these years and more important my words were helping others – this is something I’m very proud of.

“It’s so hard when you’ve not shared some of your memories with anyone, laying it all out bearing your soul makes me very vulnerable, I’m used to having a brick wall up that does not come down very often but I’m so glad that sharing my story, which was difficult to write, will now help others.”

Kat is known locally for her role as radio host of Loose Ladies Live and founder of Honest Blogger as well as founder of the recently formed The Real Housewives of Flintshire – a community group aiming to encourage the power of sharing the hidden mental health struggles that many people face.

She wrote the book as part of her own healing process of drawing the line under her traumatic childhood with a view to shining a light on many topics that are not usually discussed.

Kat is working with her local schools to create a programme to discuss mental health as she feels more needs to be done to support children from an early age.

The mum-of-two added: “It’s tragic that the system is still failing. Mental health needs to be put on the curriculum in schools as a lesson or workshop.

“A referral process won’t work, it still creates stigma. We need fun and interactive lessons to show children that they are not going through this on their own.”

The book is now available to buy on Amazon.
