A CONSULTATION is set to be launched over plans to build houses, shops and a school on part of a former steelworks near Wrexham.

Brymbo Developments Limited is set to reveal its proposals for the former Brymbo Steelworks site after already building hundreds of homes in the village.

The company is also working with Brymbo Heritage Group to transform some of the area into a major heritage attraction with a fossil forest, narrow gauge railway, country park and learning centre.

Residents are now being invited to review the plans at Brymbo Enterprise Centre at Blast Road on Tuesday between 3pm and 7pm.

Under the banner of ‘Brymbo Park’ the revised proposals are expected to include land for additional housing, retail and a proposed school.

Councillor Paul Rogers, who represents Brymbo, has welcomed the consultation and encouraged residents to attend.

He said: “I am pleased Brymbo Developments Ltd are consulting on their latest proposals.

“I would encourage residents from Brymbo and Tanyfron to attend so they have their say and I look forward to their feedback.”

The company has previously drawn criticism after a multi-million pound spine road scheme linking Brymbo to Tanyfron took much longer than expected to be delivered.

However, construction was finally completed on the £2 million project in June 2015, which Cllr Rogers said would provide a ‘big boost’ for businesses.

At the time it opened, it was claimed the road would be vital in attracting retailers to the development.
