LLAY WELFARE will mark 40 successive years of touring with a trip to Spain next winter.

The Wrexham-based outfit announced the planned venture to the Costa Blanca, near Benidorm, after returning from this year's trip to York.

Llay will face Sporting Alfas CC in Spain in October, chairman Colin Peers saying: “We are extremely proud of reaching this amazing milestone and hope to mark it in style in Spain!

"With our crop of current Wales representatives at youth level and our thriving social scene, I am confident that the club has a bright future and we would welcome any new players keen to contribute to our club’s continuing growth.

"Roll on 2019!”

The 2018 edition of the Llay tour proved a successful one with Nathan Humphreys' side returning to Wales with a 100 per cent winning record.

After a poignant toast outside the Welfare in memory of cricket and football stalwart John Parry, Llay made their way to Acomb on Friday.

Skipper Humphreys struck 93 for Llay, who posted 253 for two with Mike Phennah (63 retired) and Jacob Roberts (54 not out) also in the runs.

Stephen Partington then bowled the tourists to victory with four wickets, Acomb dismissed for 118.

Forty-eight hours later and Llay travelled to Bolton Percy CC, Humphreys' men against batting first.

Llay were able to post 204 for six off just 30 overs, John Lloyd hitting a top score of 88, before Partington ripped through the home side.

Bolton Percy were bowled out for 154 in reply, Partington helping himself to seven wickets.
