A RAPIDLY improving Flintshire high school has opened a new fitness suite.

St David's High School, which once required 'significant improvement' after an Estyn inspection, has opened the suite having secured funding from the National Lottery as the school continues to make improvements under new headteacher Craig Burns.

The funding, secured by the hard work of assistant head James Walker, has converted a room and equipped it with state of the art cardiovascular and weight training equipment.

It will be used during lessons to enhance students learning and enjoyment of Physical Education. It will also be available to students and staff who wish to work on their fitness out of school hours promoting a healthy active lifestyle.

The suite was formally opened by Wrexham AFC manager and former Welsh International footballer Sam Ricketts.

He said: ''The more activity kids can do is great and the facility is very impressive. It's also impressive that the school has gone out of its way to source funding in order to provide this for their students and staff. This shows what's possible if you aim high and work hard to make things happen''.

Mr Burns, said: ''I'm really pleased that St David's has secured additional funding to introduce our very own fitness suite to students and staff. This will further develop our health and well-being strategy and enable all learners to thrive in our small, caring and successful school.

''Parents and children considering St David's for 2019 and beyond are welcome to visit on one of our open days and evening, or any other time."
