A CHARITY football match proved to be a big hit in memory of a Broughton father-of-two.

John 'Badger' Park died in February 2017 aged 53 after he suffered a heart attack.

Suzanne Fairman, Mr Park's friend, organised a football match in his memory and the tradition continued this year to pay tribute.

On Sunday September 9, Once Upon a Smile, a bereavement charity, played Badger's Boys, a local team at Airbus UK.

Ms Fairman said: "We asked Once Upon a Smile to come and play a match.

"It was founded by Daniel Jillings from Prey and Danny Miller from Emmerdale and they have celebrity friends who get a team together.

"In the end it was 5-2 to the local team.

"I asked one of the stewards how many people he thought came, and he reckoned 200 people.

"We also had an auction and raffle back at the Broughton Wings Social Club after the match."

Once Upon a Smile offers emotional and practical support to bereaved families after the death of a loved one and play charity football matches across the country.
