THE dangerous abuse of 'laughing gas' may not be restricted to young people, a council chief has said.
In recent months the Leader has reported on the increasing number of reports of youngsters inhaling Nitrous Oxide and officers from North Wales Police urging parents to educate their children.
Last week, more than 50 empty gas canisters were found on a Flintshire playing field and a spokesman for the South Flintshire Policing team said the items can be purchased online in bulk.
Claire Homard, chief officer for education and youth at Flintshire Council, said: "We are aware that there is a growing recreational use of nitrous oxide and that is a concern, however there are no indications that this is restricted to young people.
"Our Flintshire Sorted Team are working closely with partners, including North Wales Police, to raise awareness across the county of this trend and the dangers associated with the misuse of nitrous oxide."
Anyone with concerns can contact Flintshire Sorted, who work with young people to minimise the impact of drugs and alcohol.
They can be contacted on 01352 703490.
