A PARTIALLY sighted student has celebrated excellent GCSE results after years of hard work.

Dewi Parry of Castell Alun High School in Hope, achieved eight A* grades at the Year 11 results day.

He said despite him being partially sighted, he got through it with the help of those around him, adding: "I'm relieved, Ive had lots of support and I got through it."

The teenager went to Penyffordd primary school and now aims to return back to Castell Alun in September for his A-Levels.

Carl Pugh, assistant head, has worked with Dewi throughout his time at the school and he said he is proud of his results.

He said: "He's a good lad, very conscientious and he's done it all himself. He worked really hard and the results speak for themselves.

"His mum will be pleased. We have all worked together, he's a bright lad and he's done well."

Headteacher Graham Hughes, said: "He's a fantastic lad, humble and hard working.

"He gives his best in everything he does and is a credit to his family."
