FARMING land could be transformed to provide a ‘unique holiday experience’ through the introduction of safari tents and camping pods.

Plans have been submitted by the owners of Forge Farm in Chirk, who say they want to change the use of some of their land on the banks of the River Ceiriog for tourism use.

The proposals would see three safari style tents and three camping pods brought in to provide a boost to the local economy.

In a supporting statement written on behalf of JE and V Evans and Son, they said it would reduce their reliance on agricultural income.

It states: “Mr and Mrs Evans realise the need to diversify to improve the sustainability of the farm and provide an additional income.

“The site is adjacent to River Ceiriog offering visitors a unique and tranquil holiday experience.

“The small site can be developed without detrimental effect on the surrounding landscape.

“Although only a small site, it will contribute to the local economy from the construction stage through to bringing visitors to the area.”

It adds that farm diversification is increasingly important for rural communities.

The proposals will be considered by Wrexham Council at a future date.
