ANIMAL lovers came together to bless their beloved pets over the weekend.

Derek Lea - known locally as 'Derek the Dog' - has organised the service for the past six years and he said it has maintained its success.

The blessing service was held on Sunday at Quaystone Chapel, Connah's Quay and saw dogs, cats, ferrets and a tortoise join the session.

Animal lover Derek said he is a dog fanatic and is never seen anywhere without his beloved pooches.

The 73-year-old added: "It went down brilliantly, it was a brilliant day and went really well.

"I think we had quite a good turnout , it was great. All being well there will be another one next year.

"It's the best one we have had so far, I think, because it was more youthful."

The Sunday School Holiday continued with the theme of 'Animals in the Bible' and the pet oriented event saw a prayer service, which was animal based, before they were blessed.

Pets were introduced to each other and the Rev before the service began.
