PLANS are in the pipeline to extend a holiday park, allowing room for more caravans.

A planning application has been submitted to Flintshire Council on behalf of Barlows Caravan Park at Pen Y Cefn, Caerwys.

The proposal is to extend the existing family-owned holiday park to allow for the relocation of approved static and touring caravans to facilitate improvements to the layout of the existing park together with the creation of an area

for six glamping pitches and additional landscaping

A design and access statement submitted with the application, states: "In summary, the park has planning consent and a Site Licence for 305 static holiday caravans and 90 touring caravans which can be occupied between 1st March in any one year to January 14 in the following year.

"Due to the increasing size of static holiday caravans and their subsequent demand from holidaymakers, there are considerably less than the 305 approved static caravans presently sited.

"With further improvements to the site planned, more caravans will be ‘lost’ which significantly affects the viability of the business.

"The park generates upwards of £3m into the local economy each year. For this reason it is important that the park is able to improve and expand to meet the demands of current and future holidaymakers without

losing large numbers of caravan units, which could potentially jeopardise the viability of the park."

The statement adds that occupation of the site will remain strictly for holiday use only.

It adds: "The proposed development will create off-site spend into the local economy to support local businesses not just in Caerwys but also the surrounding towns and villages.

"Given the fact that this application is not proposing any additional holiday accommodation above what the applicant has consent for, this application seeks to sustain and maintain the substantial economic spend generated by the site."

The application is currently open to public consultation until August 23.

Flintshire Council's planning committee will make a decision on the application at a later date.
