PRIMARY schools took part in a finals day of cricket.

Girls from five schools, three from Flintshire and two from Wrexham, battled it out at Northop Hall Cricket Club.

Each of the schools, which included Mountain Lane from Buckley, Ysgol Maes Y Felin and Maes Glas in Holywell, Alexandra C.P. School from Wrexham and All Saints C.P. of Gresford, had all won qualifying tournaments to reach the finals day.

A round robin format saw Flintshire face Wrexham, with Mountain Lane playing Alexandra C.P. and Flintshire prevailed with Mountain Lane successful chasing Alexandra’s 263 to win the tournament.

Many of the girls who took part do not play for clubs, only at school and are desperate to join local teams so clubs looking for players are urged to look to these schools for new players.

Simon Perry, teacher at Alexandra C.P., said: ‘’I am really proud of the girls, I couldn’t ask for anything more in terms of the way they’ve played but more importantly the great levels of spirit they have shown.

‘’They have only been playing for two or three years, so to come this far and make the final is a great effort. Before the final in our team huddle we all shouted our school motto ‘we can do’, and the girls have certainly lived up that. Their confidence has come on leaps and bounds.’’
